Class was in session last night with “Professor Puth” at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida!
The Whatever’s Clever! World Tour was a beautiful showcase of the singer-songwriter’s new album, along with hits from his four-album discography.
Backup singers Liiv, Lorea Turner, and Jaden Blakely Gray took the stage first, harmonizing an introduction that would set the tone for the evening.
Puth is known for being a music nerd, so it was no surprise when he unironically declared early in the show: “We’re gonna play lots of jazz chords!”

What stood out most to me was the seamless transition between songs.
Musical interludes made for a smooth setlist flow, and Puth’s skillful band of players delivered soulful grooves throughout the show. I couldn’t help but draw my attention to Bassist Brendon Brown and drummer CJ Thompson, who were clearly enjoying themselves while playing masterfully.
New tracks like “Beat Yourself Up” and “Love in Exile” blended in perfectly alongside older fan favorites like “Attention,” which the crowd went absolutely feral for.
Charlie Puth is a charming, likable performer. Bouncing between two synths throughout the set, he played and showed off his vocal range with fun runs and improv bits.
Puth and his band all encouraged us to sing along: even instructing us by vocal part (Tenor, Alto, and - of course - I took the Soprano part). These participation segments were fun and engaging.
The raised platform with video capabilities was a nice touch when it came to stage production.
Music notes, clouds, checkerboard patterns, and hearts danced around the band at different times in the evening.
Rounding out the evening with spectacular “One Call Away” and “See You Again” sing-alongs, the audience lit up the venue with a sea of cell phone flashlights.
Before closing with “Changes,” Charlie imparted us with these uplifting words:
“Art is really important everybody…it can enhance every aspect of your life…Art transcends and inspires.”
It has certainly changed my life for the better, and based on the response from the audience it seems we have all been positively impacted by music.
A lovely sentiment to close a wonderful evening!
