Los Lobos brought five decades of border-crossing brilliance to the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on Jan. 11. From the opening notes, the East L.A. legends demonstrated why their sound remains as revolutionary as it was when they first emerged from the barrios.
The setlist was a journey through their remarkable catalog, seamlessly weaving rootsy grit, searing rock and roll, and their signature blend of Norteña, cumbia, and blues threading it all together. Perhaps what struck most powerfully was the band's undiminished intensity. These five musical blood brothers played with the fire of a hungry young band. They've logged 100+ shows annually for half a century, snagged seven Grammy Awards and churned out 17 studio albums and they plan to keep the music playing which is a great thing for fans.
