The Au-Rene Theater became a time machine on August 2nd as two titans of late-'80s dance-pop proved their staying power with back-to-back sets that had the Broward Center crowd moving like it was 1988 all over again. Taylor Dayne opened with the one-two punch of "Prove Your Love" and "With Every Beat of My Heart," her powerhouse vocals still commanding every corner of the venue, while smartly weaving in covers of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and Barry White's "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" that showcased her range beyond the hits. Lisa Lisa followed with a Cult Jam clinic, launching into "Let the Beat Hit 'Em" before seamlessly blending "Head to Toe" with "Lost in Emotion" in a medley that reminded everyone why she owned MTV in the Reagan era. Both artists proved that while the synthesizers may have evolved, the songs that defined a generation's Friday nights still pack the same emotional punch three decades later.
