She told us she was 47. We believed her for exactly three seconds before Diana Ross flashed that million-dollar grin and copped to 82. The crowd roared. And then she made every single year irrelevant immediately demonstrating she truly is timeless.

Ross commanded the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida stage Friday night with the kind of effortless authority that no amount of youth can manufacture. Opening with a blaze of Supremes classics, she moved through "Stop! In the Name of Love," "Baby Love," and "Come See About Me" like a woman who invented the blueprint and never stopped owning it. The voice remains supple, warm, and impossibly alive.

The evening's most tender moment came when her firstborn daughter joined her for a duet, the stage suddenly feeling intimate despite its size. Then Ross turned the room into a full-on revival, closing with a roof-lifting rendition of "I Will Survive" that had everyone on their feet and nobody checking the time.

As she glided offstage, she stopped to sign autographs for fans pressed against the front row, bending toward them like royalty meeting her court because that is exactly what she is.
