Chris Isaak proved that smooth crooning never goes out of style during his captivating performance at The Parker on Aug. 2 in Fort Lauderdale. The veteran performer crafted an evening that felt both intimate and expansive, weaving together his signature romantic ballads with carefully chosen covers that showcased his deep musical roots.
Isaak's setlist struck an ideal balance between career-spanning favorites and unexpected gems. "Wicked Game" naturally served as an emotional centerpiece, while covers ranging from Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" to Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love" demonstrated his reverence for the crooners who came before him. The mid-show acoustic segment, featuring Isaak alongside Rowland Salley and J.D. Simo on stools, provided a welcome change of pace that highlighted the raw emotion in songs like "Forever Blue."
The encore proved particularly dynamic, opening with "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" enhanced by a drum solo and James Bond theme interlude that added theatrical flair to the proceedings. By the time Isaak closed with "The Way Things Really Are" and band introductions, he had delivered exactly what his audience craved—a night of romantic Americana tunes.
