From Lady Gaga to Coldplay to The Who, musicians all over the world have been paying tribute to the legendary Ozzy Osbourne. Last night, Big Rock Band paid homage to the Prince of Darkness with pure love and infinite light while delivering a divine rendition of "Mama, I'm Coming Home."
Frontman Alex Lencina poured his soul into every note of Ozzy Osbourne's 1991 hit.
The guitar tandem of Scott Sherman and the legendary "Beast From The East" Jimi Fiano created a wall of sound that was both crushing and melodically sophisticated. Fernando Santomaggio's bass lines provided a melodic foundation that perfectly complements the song's emotional weight. With Philip Bithell on keys, Ysauro Hernandez on tambourine, and Euvoski Cunningham Sr., on drums, they rounded out this heartmoving rendition of a true rock classic.
But the gift of new additions to the setlist didn't end there. Big Rock Band then pulled out a cover of George Michael's "Freedom" that was equal parts liberating and elevating. George Michael's "Freedom" recently marked its 35th anniversary. The song celebrated its 35th anniversary of release earlier this year. I have always been mesmerized by this song and its relatable message of breaking free from whatever holds you back, whether that's a toxic relationship, societal expectations, or internal demons. I have also always been a fan of its supermodel-soaked music video too.
I loved seeing Big Rock Band make covers of Ozzy Osbourne and George Michael completely their own. It was a very cathartic show in so many ways. Thank you, Big Rock Band, for another unforgettable show!
